OUR APPROACH
A seed is only the beginning.
SeedLookout helps you find a world and understand how to reproduce it. We preserve the original source, the generation version and the limits of what has been checked.
Three different kinds of evidence
- Source-reported: an identified creator or research project published the seed and its features. Our initial collection uses this label.
- Model prediction: a deterministic world-generation library calculates a biome or location. Our map previews use this method.
- In-game verified: the actual game, with a recorded release and settings, reproduced a specific claim. No catalogue entry currently has this status.
Match the generation version
The same seed can generate different worlds across editions, releases, world settings and mods. An older world can also contain chunks generated by different versions. Always check the version that generated the area you want to reproduce.
Our Java map currently supports 1.18.2, 1.19.4, 1.20.6, 1.21.1 and 1.21.3. It does not support Bedrock, snapshots or the 26.x releases. The initial survival records cite Java 1.20.1; their previews deliberately identify the different 1.20.6 model. We have not confirmed cross-version compatibility.
What the map shows
The explorer calculates Overworld biomes at Y 64 using Cubiomes, through the seedmaps-engine-wasm wrapper. Colors identify biomes, not exact terrain height or blocks. Large-area views use coarser sampling. The map does not verify structures, spawn positions, visual beauty or player-built creations.
Credit stays with the source
“Featured by” means the creator included the seed in their published collection. It does not imply that they discovered it, used it in a series or endorsed SeedLookout. Historic worlds link directly to the original Minecraft@Home research projects.
A small beginning
This beta contains a deliberately small catalogue. Popularity rankings and advertising are not active. New records should earn their place through useful information and traceable evidence.
